Quick Weekend Trip

We left for Hattiesburg on Thursday evening and arrived around two in the morning on Friday.  The drive is about 6 hours, but we had some bad weather on the way so it took a little longer.  Friday was a fun day of hanging out around the house and playing with my nieces.  Sammy and I also squeezed in a nap before an evening out.

Friday evening we saw Richard Johnston play at the Keg and Barrel.  He was awesome, great blues...plus he makes some of his instruments.  Cool!

Saturday was the real reason for the trip it was Lindsey's first communion.  I am a proud Godmother!  The service was beautiful and I got teary eyed watching her process in to the church.  She looked lovely!

The coolest thing was we got to be with her for her first communion...like with her at the altar.  When they called her name, we all got to go with her and make a semi circle behind her while she received the eucharist and then we all got to take communion.  Awesome!

Afterward we went home to have fried chicken and celebrate.  My sister and brother-in-law didn't have to put much effort out for the party since they know a good caterer in Hattiesburg.  :) For those of you that don't know...I am referencing my brother-in-law who owns/runs the Neal House and the Keg and Barrel in Hattiesburg.  The Neal House set up the food while we were at the church.  Not a bad deal.  And we had cake....yum.

I think Lindsey was definitely tired of posing for pictures by the end of the day!

Sunday morning we packed up and headed back to Houston.  The trip was way too short, but we wouldn't have missed it for the world!

We could tell the Mississippi river was high on her banks as we passed through Baton Rouge.  That flooding is so devastating!

I don't envy the folks who had to make the decisions involved in opening the floodway to divert water from the larger cities.  I know it is a greater good type of decision, but there will still be plenty of folks that lose everything in the area due to flooding.  We could tell the Atchafalaya Basin was already higher than normal.

We had a beautiful day for a drive, clear and sunny with cool temperatures.  We stopped a few times to trade off driving and grab some food.  Sammy was a good passenger.

And of course we are always happy to see the star at the Texas welcome center...a sign we are almost home!

Our weekend was busy, but fabulous!!!  I hope everyone had a great weekend!
