Weekend Recap

That thing called January sure flew by didn't it?  I can't believe it is already February.  I need time to slow down a bit.  I don't want to blink and find myself in 2015.

So, how about that Super Bowl?  It was awesome, right?  A real nail biter.  Have you seen this yet?

It's funny because I remember this shot of Manning on the sidelines and I said, "Mom, it's not going so well."  Great minds think alike.

Saturday I hung out with this handsome guy.

And also with this cute dog.  See what I did there?  This is Scooter and he is looking for a new home.  His human is terminally ill and can longer care for him, so we are helping to re-home this guy.

Isn't he awesome?  He is 85 pounds of love.  He might be our next foster.  We shall see how an introduction with Sammy goes.

This weekend I continued my new year's organization and Sunday I tackled the bar cabinet.  Sammy helped.

I cleaned out some glasses for donation and I pulled glasses from my too crowded kitchen cabinet to add to this cabinet.  I also sorted the liquors and grouped them with the glasses they are served in.  So the tequila is with the margarita glasses and the vodka is with the martini glasses, etc. because I am a nerd like that.

I celebrated my accomplishments with a Bloody Mary.

V8 makes a good Bloody Mary basic mix in a pinch in case you didn't know.  Then you can add the pepper, horseradish, and the Worcestershire sauce yourself.  The husband also adds Tabasco.

I hope you had a fantastic weekend.

Preston

On our cold non-snow day yesterday I did some blogging and some doggie bio writing.  Yes, I am excited to be working with Red Collar Rescue helping advertise the available animals for adoption.  Yesterday I was asked to give this cutie a voice.

Meet Preston!

Hey there, I'm Preston!  I am a happy pup and I love to play!  Do you have kids or other dogs?  That'd be neat because I love them all!

I am 10 months old and my other hobbies include cuddling and playing with toys, especially the ones with lots of stuffing in them.  I shake my toys and I love to pounce on them.

I'm working on learning all my manners; and I'm a fast study, so with a little work I'll have the basics down pat!  I'll probably be about 30 pounds when I am all grown up.

I'd love a special home to call my own.  Will you be my family?

If you'd be interested in fostering or adopting Preston, contact Red Collar Rescue at info@redcollar.org. Preston would love to hear from you!

Weekly Finds

I finally have a headboard for my bed.  I knew I would find it eventually.

What took me so long?  Well, I wasn't sure what I wanted, but I knew I would know it when I saw it.  And the one I knew I wanted when I saw it was hiding at the Lucky Rabbit in Hattiesburg, MS.

This place is super cute.  If you live in or are visiting the area this place is a must stop.  They have tons of vintage, recycled, upcycled, and hand made items.  My headboard is a re-purposed door.  Neat, right?

I love how it looks in the space.  The bird canvases that were hanging on the wall are now sitting on the top of the headboard leaning against the wall.  I like the way it looks and they are stable up there.

Last night I was reading my February Better Homes and Gardens magazine and I saw one of the coolest ideas for a kitchen remodel that I have seen in a while.  At first I wasn't sure I liked it, but the more I thought about it the more I loved it.

Couldn't find the real pictures online, so you have to settle for pics of the magazine

This house is in Atlanta and was built in the late 1920's.  Being in a home that was built in the 30's I can tell you that there is not a lot of open space, like modern homes, between the kitchen and living areas.  I thought this was a great reuse of space.  The family did away with the wall between their kitchen and a "bonus room" and relocated the refrigerator to make one large room with a living space.

The more I think about it the more I love it.  When I have people over if I am in the kitchen my guests are hanging out in there with me sitting at the breakfast room table or they are in the family room and I am isolated from them.  This room provides a place for comfortable socializing right in the kitchen.  I think it is genius and so charming.

And of course I applaud their use of subway tile.

I'm still so in love with subway tile.

We did get our "snow" day here in Houston.  Even if the forecast was a little off I am thankful for a lazy day.  I see a movie marathon and a nap in my future.

Have a great day!  Stay warm out there.

Weekend Recap

We had a fantastic relaxed boring weekend!  It was perfect!  It started with a Houston snow day on Friday.  We didn't see any snow at our house, but it sure was icy out there.  I know everyone around the country that is well versed in winter weather makes fun of us for shutting down because of a little ice and that's just fine with me.  I was happy to stay home in my PJ pants with the husband and the fur kids.  Much better than being out and about.

Speaking of the fur kids...my girls love them some makeup.

It would be a weird day of getting out the makeup box without feline or canine supervision.

My girly girls.

Saturday brought lovely weather back up in the 60s so we ran errands and lunched at Mandola's Deli.  Delicious Italian po-boys!  And we got stuffed artichokes to take home and had those for dinner.  Yummy.

Sunday we had a play date with Wags!

Wags and her mom!

Sammy was so excited to see her BFF.  It was awesome to see Wags and the other dogs in her neighborhood.  She is in the perfect home for her and it warms my heart!!

Now tomorrow it is supposed to be cold and icy again!!  Our weather is indecisive!  I thought my desk calendar at the office was perfect for today.

For another day off tomorrow!

I don't think I can remember a winter where we had two days that we were closed due to weather.  Fingers crossed.  :)

I hope you had a great weekend!
