Weekend Recap

I did tons of yard work this weekend!  What a great workout, my arms are so sore!  Manual hedge trimmers for the win.  Besides a Friday dinner date with the husband and a trip to Michael's and Home Depot my weekend was all yard work, spring planting and taking pictures!!  I snapped some good ones of my Easter decorations.  Let's take a look.

Here is a revisit to the Easter mantel with a much better picture.  This collection is a mixture of items from well, everywhere.  The hurricanes on each end belonged to my parents and have spent many many years on this very mantel.  The small canvas of flowers also belonged to them, so it is from the same era.  I mostly said era to tease my mother.  Hi, mom.  :)  I believe they were all wedding gifts which dates them back to the late 60's.  My mom always had tapered candles in them, but I like to mix it up.

The W I picked up at Hobby Lobby a while back.  The bunnies on the right joined the Ema's Easter Decor Collection last year and I found them at Pier 1.

The bunny in the center is new to the party this year.  He came from the Lucky Rabbit in Hattiesburg, MS.  I love that place.

The eggs on the left I grabbed on sale at Pier 1 a couple of years ago.  And I just noticed my candle is crooked.  Awesome.

My coffee table has a large jar candle on it, so I put some pastel eggs in the bottom of it.

Watch out for cat laser eyes...they are dangerous.

This candle looks crooked, but in my defense it is burning unevenly, so this one is technically not my fault.  The fact that the candle holder is from Pier 1 might come as shock to you.  I hope you were sitting down.

In the dining room there are more bunnies.

On the left I have a long legged bunny that was my mom's.  He is not from the 60's.  He stands crooked, and I like it.  I have a theme working.  The bowl was my parents, I believe originally my grandmother's, so it is even older than the 60's.

On the opposite end, another bunny.  This one from Marshall's Home Goods from several years ago.

The flowers and the balls in the bowl are from Pier 1.  I sure hope you were sitting that time.

My last bit of Easter is on my breakfast room table.  This might be my favorite of all.

Tray (and coasters) from Willow House, bunny from Pier 1, bird from Trees and Trends (Hattiesburg, MS), candle and holder from Target, vase from Crate and Barrel, and the eggs from Hobby Lobby.

Yes, this is my favorite Easter grouping.  I am sure of it now.

Tomorrow on the blog...flowers!  Along with a tour of my patio decked out for spring.

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend!

Weekend Recap

The weekend involved some Houston Rodeo, some girl time, a hair cut, some shopping, and some decorating.  Yay.

I decorated my mantel for Easter.  Do you do any decorating for Easter?

I am not sure I am finished with the mantel yet.  I still feel like it needs to be rearranged or needs something more.  I love my little bunnies that I got last year at Pier 1.  The wooden bunny in the center is new this year.  I picked it up in Hattiesburg at The Lucky Rabbit.

I had to snap a picture of Sammy relaxing.  I thought she looked like she had a question.

Turns out she does.  She wanted to know if you had noticed the new Red Collar Rescue links on the right side bar of the blog.

It links to all the guest bloggers and also the other adoptables that haven't blogged yet. Please check them out, especially if you or someone you know is looking for a new pet.  There are lots of lovable dogs and cats that need homes out there.

Tomorrow on the blog are the Weekly Finds from my shopping trip this weekend.  Yay!  Here is a little preview.

I hope you had a fabulous weekend!

Weekly Finds

I am creating lots of wish lists right now.  Even though we are pretty much finished with the big things in the house, I am still planning wonderful things.  Is that wrong?  Here are some things I am loving.

I want to improve the sitting area on the sun porch off our bedroom.  Right now there is a large red sofa, which is pretty, but it is a little big for the space.  I want something brighter and smaller.  Like a love seat.

The sun porch is trimmed in yellow, so this loveseat might be a little much, but I do love this one.  If not a love seat for the sitting area, maybe a couple of chairs.

Right now the porch is a bonus space that we are completely under using.  I plan to change that.

In the living room, I have been hunting for the perfect window treatments.  I really like these curtains...definitely a possibility.

I am bored with our bedding and I want something with a pattern.  I still want to do a quilt set and I love this one...

and this one...

Either of those would be great with our new headboard.  I would also love to have matching bedside lamps.  I think this pineapple one is pretty cute.

While I was out in the internet world browsing, I saw this pillow.  It would be adorable on my sofa for the summer.

What are you loving right now?

Welcome Fall

We don't really have any fall temperatures here in Houston yet, but that doesn't mean my decor has to lack fall touches.  I have already been bringing fall into my home.

I like my fall mantel this year.  I changed it a up a bit from last year.

If you have been reading the blog for a while you know that the husband and I took over my childhood home and have been making improvements as we go.  Along with the house I also inherited some awesome items from my mom and grandmothers.  I wanted to incorporate some of those into my decor this year.

The first piece I used was this silver dish propped on a small wire easel with sparkle pumpkins pouring from it.  I found the sparkle pumpkins at Pier 1 and I love how the react to the camera flash.  I used them in one of my hurricanes as well.

In the center of the mantel I used some clearance bird houses I got from Willow House when they were phasing out their home goods.  Silly Willow House, I liked their home goods.  I don't know why they decided to do away with them.  Sigh.

I tied bows on them and added these hand written welcome notes that I made with scrap book paper and a metallic sharpie.  I thought it turned out kind of cute.

The right side of the mantel remained the same as last year, but I incorporated gourds into my large hurricane.

I am a fan.  I love sitting in the living room in the evening with the candles lit.

Another silver piece I used from my stash was this footed dish to elevate one of my pumpkins on the top of the piano.

I like how it makes the pumpkin stand up above the music stand.

Are you already decorating for the fall?  Or even better do you already have some fall temperatures where you live?

Enjoy your Wednesday!!

Recovery Week Three

Today marks three weeks since surgery.  I have to admit I am feeling kind of blah and frustrated.  It is hard to not be able to do everything you want to do, like stretch to reach things from high shelves, bend over easily, run to the grocery store, walk the dog, and pick up stuff without assistance.  I know I shouldn't be complaining.  I am in a great position with wonderful support and this is a temporary thing...I am lucky.  There are some people things like this are not temporary for and I shouldn't complain.  So there you go, pity party over.  Shifting focus now.  Oh, I know...flowers!

I mentioned in last week's recovery post that I was on my last bouquet of flowers.  Well, the mom drove me up to Trader Joe's on Monday and I found these daffodils for five bucks.  Yes, please and thank you.  I like them here next to my kitchen window and cute yellow bird the sister gave me.

Birds and flowers are so spring, I love spring.  It is one of my most favorite seasons.  The fact that everything is in bloom here, like my azaleas was probably one of my motivators to redo my blog header.

Speaking of which, what do you think of the new header?  I like it, but I did like the old one too.  :)  In spring cleaning fashion I also updated my About Me page.  I definitely like it much better now.

I also embellished my door bucket for Easter.  You might remember from this post that I had gotten some new flowers for my door bucket back in February that I added hearts to for Valentine's Day.  Well, I found some sparkly Easter eggs at Hobby Lobby a while back (pre-surgery) and transitioned it perfectly to Easter.

While we are on the Easter subject, here is my Easter mantel.

Yes, of course there is an Easter mantel.

I love these bunnies.  I picked them up at Pier 1 back in February.

Along with these Easter eggs.

I think it makes up a fun and simple Easter mantel.  I do hope to pick up a few more bunnies on clearance after Easter.  Who doesn't need extra bunnies?

The husband hung a bird feeder in the backyard for me last weekend.  The sparrows are loving it.  Trixie is enjoying the view.

I know we are not the only ones who are loving the weather and flowers here in Houston.

I hope you have a fantastic day friends!!
