Patriotic Mantel

I have seen lots of awesome patriotic decor ideas on Pinterest lately.  It was my inspiration to begin my patriotic mantel and and to create this picture to add to it.

This piece was the finishing touch to my mantel.

I love it and I will keep it up the remainder of the summer.  I feel like the summer with Memorial Day, Labor Day, and the 4th of July is a patriotic time of the year.

The pieces on the mantel break down like this:

The larger stars I picked up at Michael's for $3.99 each.

The birdhouse also came from Michael's and it was $4.99.

The picture frame on the left I picked up a while back on sale at Hobby Lobby to frame this picture of the husband receiving a letter of commendations while he was in the Navy.

I thought it fit right in on this mantel.

The frame I painted for the print I made I picked up at Wal-Mart for three bucks.  It looked like this when I brought it home.

Much better.

One more look..

Enjoy your day!!

Weekly Finds

As you might have noticed from Monday's post, I am very proud of the husband for completing the BP MS 150 over the weekend.  It should be no surprise that something MS 150 related is part of my weekly finds this week.

I picked up a frame and matte for Daniel's completion certificate at Michael's yesterday.  I love how easy craft stores make it to frame a special document.  I also grabbed some fun ribbon and a scrapbook bicycle to make even more special for my hubby.

He was very touched when I gave it to him last night.  I was happy.

Way to go Dano.

Another find for the week came right out of my closet.  I love it when I find things I have forgotten about.  Thanks to a closet clean out, I came across this weekly calendar that I had purchased as a Christmas present for my mother that she did not need.  I had intentions of returning it, but clearly that didn't happen.

It's a cute little calendar that I am now putting to work at the office.  I like to jot down tasks that I work on each day that are not on the to-do list so I can know where my time goes during the week.

It's a handy way of keeping track especially when the boss wants updates.

I hope your week is treating you well.  Did you make any fun finds this week?

Have a fabulous Wednesday!!

It's Beginning to Look Like Christmas!

After Thanksgiving I did some Christmas decorating.  I have a fireplace and mantle now and I was excited to decorate it.

Yes, that is the decoration storage box and some wrapped presents in the picture...I was that excited to snap a picture I couldn't wait to clean up.

I ruined two of our stockings by storing them too close to a red candle so I ordered new stockings for us all with our names on them.  I am excited to hang them when they come and I am sure will share a new picture.  Other than that I decided I needed the lights and greenery to extend the entire length of the mantle and my sister made the great suggestion of hanging a lighted wreath.  Off to Michael's I went!  I got a lighted wreath that was on sale for 15 bucks and I got beaded tinsel and glittery letters for 50 cents each.

Ta-da!

With the beads and letters the wreath set me back about 20 bucks.  I used my glue gun to put the letters on the wreath.

Festive, yes?

I also picked up some greenery for the dining room.  I couldn't let me new candle holders miss out, right?

My other new decoration this year are these ornaments from Willow House.

After the tree arrives this weekend I will share more of my decorations.  Have you started decorating yet?
