Birthday Weekend Recap

I had a fantastic birthday weekend!!!  I think this might have been one of the best ones yet.  It all started on Friday afternoon because I had the afternoon off.  The husband took me to Goode Company Seafood for a delicious lunch.

Aside from delicious food, Goode Company's Westpark location has a cute atmosphere.  Part of the restaurant was constructed from an old railroad car.

The Goode family has been in the restaurant business in Houston for a long time.  They have several locations and many different types of food including their signature Texas barbeque.  Lunch was delicious.  The husband and I split a mesquite grilled fish and shrimp po-boy and had some fantastic gumbo.

After lunch we made a visit to the Harris County Animal Control shelter.  A couple of my animal rescue friends volunteer in various capacities at this facility.  As far as shelters go in the Houston area this is a very small and very poorly funded shelter and therefore they have a higher kill rate than others.  Whenever I see special animals there, I am moved to go meet them to try and champion their rescue or adoption.

On Friday we met this guy...

This dog was picked up as stray.  He clearly had a home at one point, he was neutered and very well behaved.  He was a little under weight, but heart worm negative and ready, very ready, to go home.  I am not sure how he ended up on the streets, but I do know that when he was picked up by animal control he had no collar and no microchip.  Please, please, please tag and microchip your pets.  It gives them the best odds of making it back home to you if they are lost.  Do not worry about this guy.  He will live happily ever after in a new forever home.

Saturday one of my BFFs Rebecca took me for a fantastic mani/pedi at NailTime.  I had never been to this nail spa before, but I loved it!

Rebecca and I got our spa pedicures in a smaller room and it was so nice because for most of our time there it was only the two of us in there.  It was fun to have catch up time with her without distraction.

The massage chairs in this place were actually comfortable!  Yay!

After NailTime we headed over to Lola in the Houston Heights for lunch.  Right now I am working from a list of new to me restaurants to try and this was one of them.  I will go back.

For one, how cute is this?  And secondly...

Um, yum!  I had the club sandwich and Rebecca had a fried green BLT.  Yep, it had fried green tomatoes on it.  She said it was divine.  And their fries, just wow.  I can't wait to go back for breakfast.  Chicken and waffles?  Yes, please.  Go. Eat. Enjoy.

Saturday evening we had a relaxed dinner with friends, which was just what this birthday girl wanted.  I also got to say happy birthday to another BFF who shares a birthday day me!!

This was obviously not taken at dinner, but it is still some of my favorite silliness with this amazing woman.  Kasey, I hope your birthday weekend was a fantastic and relaxing as mine was.  I love you!!

On Sunday the husband and I went for massages at our fave place  Dolce Vita Day Spa.  I have no pictures to share of our trip, but they are definitely worth mentioning because they are fabulous.  If you are in need of a little massage therapy, you cannot go wrong here.

It was a fantastic weekend!  The only thing I did not get to check off my list was a birthday weekend nap.  Oh, well.  There is always next weekend.

Today is another very special birthday.  Yet another of my BFFs is celebrating today.  Happy Birthday Liz!!!

I hope your day is fantastic.  If you are also a 4/14 baby, happy birthday to you!!!

Come back and visit me tomorrow.  Sammy has an announcement.

Have a lovely Monday of what I hope is a short work week for you as well!

Weekend Recap

Happy Monday friends!  We had a wonderful weekend that I am ready to recap for you...so I will just dive right in.

I discovered the photo stitch app on my phone.  I am late to the party, I know.

Apparently I downloaded it a while back, but never used it.  Good times.  Odd that my first collage is of my dog, don't you think?  Speaking of which I had too much fun cracking myself up at this silliness while playing with said dog and my phone over the weekend.

Upside Down Moose

Good times.

This weekend was a weekend of discovery in the Houston Heights.  I love that area of our city...like with a huge heart.

Saturday we went and sat outside in the beautiful spring like winter weather at Crisp.  They have a beautiful outdoor area.

Crisp has a nice craft beer list and an extensive wine list and their food....delicious.  We shared tastes of the Baked Texas Goat Cheese and Marinara, the Saffron Arancini, and one of their delicious pizzas.  All were worth the splurge of weight watchers points I used.

The moon was full that night and I love the twinkle lights that Crisp has outside.

Look at all those people that photo bombed my picture of the moon and twinkle lights. Crazy.

On Sunday we headed over to Style Cycle, a super cute vintage store in the Heights.  I am not just saying it is super cute because I know the owners, it is actually super cute.

Sunday was their first monthly auction and the husband and I were helping out.  I got to practice my Vanna White moves showing off awesome vintage housewares.

The auction had a neat layout where you got to bid on a set of items and then come up and choose what you wanted each for the price you had bid.  I liked the set up and I am not ashamed to say that I went home with a super cool item...an art glass bowl.  It will be on the blog tomorrow.  :)

Go visit Style Cycle, they have a great selection of housewares, furniture and clothing that is all vintage or vintage inspired.  They also have a large selection of things that have been restyled and re-purposed.  Check their website for auction events as well!

Style Cycle teamed up with Speers Rolling Bistro to provide food for their event.  Talk about food truck love.

I had the best grilled cheese of my life last night.  It had two kinds of cheese, garlic aioli, carmelized onions and arugula on it.  Grilled cheese love at first sight bite...also completely worth the WW points I saved up for it.

The husband got the Cuban sandwich and the garlic fries.  I stole tastes and they were also phenomenal.  You can check their website to see where to find the truck each day to track down these delicious eats.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  I am linking up for Yolo Mondays.

Visit me tomorrow for weekend finds...little things I found for the house over the weekend.

Have a great day!!

Wow! It's Wednesday!

What a crazy busy week this has been!  I can't believe it is already Wednesday, I haven't even done the Weekend Recap yet this week.  I will get to that now.

The biggest event and accomplishment this weekend was the arrival of Patriots Junk Removal on Saturday morning.

They came and picked up all of this.

And they were fantastic.  Patriot Junk Removal recycles as much as they can that they pick up so it was nice to know they were just going to go dump all this stuff in a land fill.  They picked up what was left of the construction junk, a few small old TVs that needed to be recycled, lots of boxes and much much more.  They have great prices and they give a discount to veterans.  Nice.  I am not a vet but the husband is.  The two gentlemen that arrived to remove this junk were ex-Navy, so of course the husband had lots to talk to them about.  The guys were awesome, quick and cleaned up the space when they were done.  We will be calling them again when we clean out the attic.

In other weekend news my storage bench arrived.

Love.  I am very much looking forward to having everything finished and being able to do before and after posts of the rooms in the house.  Patience.

A cool front came through Houston this weekend.  I think it is funny that they call it that on the news.  It really meant we were having lower humidity, our highs were still in the low 90's.  I will be honest though, I really liked it.  It was so nice out.

Sammy approved.  It meant her family enjoyed sitting out on the deck throwing the ball for her even more so they stayed longer.

Happy girl.

She also enjoyed Sunday night football.

lol

The absence of humidity and the lower temps also made my walks across the campus of the University of St. Thomas much more enjoyable.  Monday and Tuesday were beautiful.

I had to pause for pictures to extend my walks.

This morning the humidity is back.  Sigh.  My mom's favorite quote from the weather man on high humidity days is, "Going outside today feels like you are being hit in the face with a wet mop."  It wasn't that bad this morning, but it wasn't great.

On the happy list for the week: getting the rest of the items packed for donation out of the house.  I delivered donations to 3 locations at lunch yesterday and I will be heading back to one of them today to take the last load.  Our friends are opening a resale store in the Houston Heights; they are calling it Style Cycle (super cute right?).  Anyway, I have lots of vintage purses and some clothes and a very cute lamp to drop off to them today.  I think it is so funny that the Dooney & Burke and Coach purses I collected in high school are vintage now.  I try not to think what that means about how old young I am.

My lunch time victory yesterday:

as posted on my WW online community page

I'll take it.  The accomplishment at lunch time today will mean ALL the donation things are out of the house.  The painter will be back tomorrow morning to paint the dining room.  Yay!!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!!!
